While a lot of fashion right now is so focused on hype, some brands exist in the realm of collective unconscious. Their focus is on simplicity and function, making them the timeless companions to your seasonal novelties. Rubbing shoulders in that realm are both Persol and A.P.C., two brands dedicated to introducing craft and beauty into the everyday. It then makes total sense that the duo has paired up on a collaboration which embodies both of their spirits so perfectly. Originally shown as part of A.P.C.’s SS20 show, the Persol 649 mark the sunglasses brand’s first partnership in five decades. The shape was first designed back in 1957 for tram-drivers in Torino, Italy, but became a statement piece in a style right four years later when Marcello Mastroianni wore them in the movie Divorce, Italian Style.
The frame is an oval aviator-style shape and, in collab with A.P.C., comes in three new acetate colours – transparent green with brown gradient lenses, transparent brown with green gradient lenses and matte white with grey gradient lenses. Launching today globally, the sunnies also come with canvas and brown leather cases which have been specially created for the collection. In the campaign for the collaboration, the eclectic potential of the sunnies is elaborated with the mix of faces that are A.P.C. founder Jean Touitou, Metronomy singer Joseph Mount and Sky Ferreira. Now we just need to get the sun to come out…
